This is the essential question for Unit 1.
How do you believe religious freedom motivated the lives of those coming to the new world?

I think those coming to the new world tried harder to get here. They wanted to be able to pray or worship whoever they wanted. This was just one of the main reasons to come to the new world.

I agree OB it was hard to become free to worship who you like too worship

I believe it motivated those who came here because they had the option to choose their own religion. This would've cause pros and cons in this situation. There are pros because they could pick their own religion to live from. There are also cons because it would cause religious wars against different religions against one another.

I agree with everything you say. I don't know why all the countries did not have religious freedom. I also don't know why everyone had to fight over which religion to choose.

I agree with you. But I still don't understand why people fight against each other, because they have religious FREEDOM so they have to think a little before fighting, if they have freedom to choose their religion why fight?

They fought then for the same reason we fight now, they wanted people to agree with their ideals. They were willing to use whatever amount of force necessary to get people to agree with them war included.

I believe they were motivated to start a new life religiously in the New World. To escape religious persecution they had back at the Church of England. But I feel some only wanted religious freedom for themselves.

I believe that because the religious freedom in the New World was new to the people at that time, some people then found it interesting and decided to move to there. As they did not like to be told to do this and that, they would probably find this good oppotunity to learn new religion and to choose in which they would like to believe or to choose none.

I think that religious freedom was a big thing to look forward to coming to the new world. Back in their country they had to do what the king said and be whatever religion he said. In the new world you could be whatever religion you wanted to and did not have to listen to the king all the time.

That's a good point not many people have made. It wasn't just for their freedom to practice religion they came here. It was to get away from the 'wrong' religions of Europe. And to spread the knowledge of the 'correct' religion, whichever they were preaching at the time, to the savages. I also think the "whatever they want to" was a really good point. Because these religious pilgrims end up setting of societies entirely run by their people they could make whatever they wanted to happen in the government.

It's a little sad to know that they still get 'in trouble' for what they believe in while here. People that don't conform with the ideals and beliefs of the town they live in are still outsiders. Maybe not as harshly punished, but if you didn't attend church on Sunday, there were issues.

I agree. That is the one thing that I never understood about religion. It was OK for people to worship in a way that they despised or worship something that they didn't believe in, but the moment they missed church on Sunday everyone had a problem with them.

I think people came to the New World to get away from tyranny of the European government. I believe religion, while a big part of their lives, was just something that they clung to for strength to help them through the hardships they would face. It became a pillar in their society because it was one thing that they could cling to, that everyone could believe in.

I believe it probably motivated them due to the fact that it is human nature to want to do something your own way. So it was natural for the settlers to be motivated by religous freedom because they would have more of a say in what they believe in.

In the New World, they could believe in anything they wanted. I think they probably wanted to hurry up and get to the New World just so they could worship whoever they wanted. They were ready to believe in whatever they wanted. This leads up to today. Religion today, is what we want to believe in and nobody can tell us different.

I think it gave people not just freedom from religion but life. As in life like the country's they came from and the leaders that ran it. This gave motive to leave and become free, free from religious views and life. Being a religious person I thinks its amazing seeing people leave everything behind to practice there religious views.
